Jesuscristo

Dear Family,

This week was full of ups and downs. Every day by seeing and evaluating what we did wrong to not reach our goals we have been humbled and have seen miracles.

Funny Story

On Friday we woke up happy, studied, and were talking about how easy the mission was. We visit people all day long, we help and serve, we live in a great house, etc. We had the worst day ever. No one was home, the family who we had previously found did not want to listen to us, we were yelled at, and walked so so much. I learned a little about humility that day. We repented and had a miracle filled weekend. I will never be so prideful again.

Oh and a miracle.

This week we met a man named Carlos. We started to talk him. He had a lot of questions about the Pearl of Great Price, The Book of Mormon, baptism, what happens when people don't want to listen to us, and a lot more things that made us so excited to teach him. We invited him to be baptized and he said. ''I lied to you both.'' We were confused and asked him what he meant. He explained that in 2001 he met the missionaries and was baptized into the church. He explained how he then fell away. We expressed our excitement and asked why he didn't mention this in the beginning. He told us of the shame he felt, the guilt he felt and the desires he had to come back. He told us that several time he had walked to the chapel doors and run away from the fear he had. We were so sad for him and felt his deep pain. We then told him of Christ. The pain he once felt was in an instant given eternal hope of being washed away. We explained the power of the atonement of Jesus Christ, the power of the sacrament, and the love Christ has for him. He came to church yesterday for the first time in years.

I learned this week so much of Christ. He lives and loves us. He is the Son of God and the Father of our souls. He and His Father are one in all ways and will ever be one.

I read in Mosiah 15:2-9. I learned about the power that God had to break the chains of death and by doing so give the power to His son to become our Father through the Atonement and through our repentance.

2 And because he dwelleth in flesh he shall be called the Son of God, and having subjected the flesh to the will of the Father, being the Father and the Son—

3 The Father, because he was conceived by the power of God; and the Son, because of the flesh; thus becoming the Father and Son—

4 And they are one God, yea, the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth.

5 And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son to the Father, being one God, suffereth temptation, and yieldeth not to the temptation, but suffereth himself to be mocked, and scourged, and cast out, and disowned by his people.

6 And after all this, after working many mighty miracles among the children of men, he shall be led, yea, even as Isaiah said, as a sheep before the shearer is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.

7 Yea, even so he shall be led, crucified, and slain, the flesh becoming subject even unto death, the will of the Son being swallowed up in the will of the Father.

8 And thus God breaketh the bands of death, having gained the victory over death; giving the Son power to make intercession for the children of men—

9 Having ascended into heaven, having the bowels of mercy; being filled with compassion towards the children of men; standing betwixt them and justice; having broken the bands of death, taken upon himself their iniquity and their transgressions, having redeemed them, and satisfied the demands of justice.

I love my Savior. He is our Master and Redeemer. We can become his children as we repent and receive the blessings of our baptismal covenant.

Hurrah for Israel!

Lots of Love,
Elder Gehring
